Two children to carry on, and soon one more to carry on after them.

(2,593 posts)You have a beautiful family. And a grandchild on the way. As a grandmother, just let me tell you that you are in for a whole new world of wonderful. Enjoy.

(54,302 posts)And the best part is that after you play with your grandchild, you get to give her/him back to your kid and say, "OK, I'm done here."
Revenge for all the times when she was a tiny terror, and we WISHED our parents would take her off our hands!

My first black eye came from my granddaughter. Granny gotta be quicker.

(16,920 posts)It's wonderful to know that your own children will experience what you did - both good and bad! They will learn a new level of love - both for their child - and for their parents.
But, was kinda' hoping this was a Blood, Sweat, and Tears thread!

(54,302 posts)I saw BS&T perform this live in Filthydelphia shortly before I moved outta there for points north. DCT had one HELL of a set of pipes!

(16,920 posts)you KNOW they're going to the Super Bowl, right? They ain't gonna' take that name-calling lightly - it's not like you're some respected public official like Santa Claus!!!
I'm with 'ya 100% percent!
LOVED BS&T - and yes, DCT did indeed have pipes - OMG!!!!!!!!!
Like you, I saw them live - once at a nightclub here in the Pittsburgh area.
Super musicians for sure - "CHICAGO" couldn't carry the music stands for those guys!

(54,302 posts)I don't follow that stuff from over here.
And I paid my dues in Philly. Went there for my four years of college and hung around for another year after that, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with myself. I was finally recruited by the outfit I still work for (rose a bit in rank in the meantime), and never looked back.

(16,920 posts)being from Pittsburgh, I don't always wish them well either!
However, I've come to "appreciate" the area since I have a BIL living there and we'd always enjoyed the visits.
Good on you for longevity with the job!
Oh, and for those following any of this, YEP, I'm hoping the Eagles kick the snot out of the Pats!

(54,302 posts)As for the job--this August makes 43 years. Scary, huh?

(54,302 posts)One of the men was born in Russia, spent almost 20 years in Israel and now lives in New York. The other was born in Germany, spent 7 years going to school in the USA and is now lives with my younger daughter in the Frankfurt area. They are both bilingual in German and English, and speak to each other switching back and forth depending on in whose company they are. The other couple speak English to each other, although our daughter speaks to my wife and her sister in German. Her man speaks English to my wife, and mostly to me, although we'll occasionally use a few phrases of Russian when no one else is around.

(15,682 posts)(grand baby) two years ago. She's amazing!!
You're going to love having a grand baby of your own. They are pure joy! Congratulations!
What a beautiful family!

(54,302 posts)We'll only be 2 hours by train away from our first grandchild. Eight hours away by plane (New York City) if the other one decides she wants a baby, too, but that's her decision, and we're only a 20 minute ride from the airport on our end, so though it's more expensive, it's no more stress to go there than to go to Frankfurt.
My girls had the good sense to inherit a good portion of my wife's genes.

(54,302 posts)Whatever I need: "Oh, yeah, I know someone who can do that," and presto! In 3 hours the track is a wrap. From start to finish, TSA Blues was introduced to the rest of TFT and the harmonica player, our usual drummer and bassist were there already (I did the guitars and the vocal), and the final mix was done within 3 hours.

(149,534 posts)Omigod, how much I love this song! I haven't heard it in AGES.
And considering how smart you and your wife are, and obviously the same for your daughters and s.o.'s, I think your grandchild will be very lucky to be born into such a family as yours.
Your grandchild will, I have NO doubt, carry on your legacy and will make all of you proud.
Congratulations!

(54,302 posts)My daughter is the brains of our family, and her man is a prodigy in his firm. Our daughter has every intention of doing what we did (getting the kid both US and German citizenship at birth) so that she/he can live and get a job in either country, as she/he sees fit. The US end is more cumbersome, bureaucracy-wise, than it was when they were born, but not insurmountable.
It was SO easy 30 years ago! I called the embassy down in Bonn (the move to Berlin was years later), went down there with my passport, my wife's info and ID, a picture, and the German birth certificate, and walked out of there within an hour with the baby's U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate and social security number.
Those were the days!
