I can say that if you missed Starship Troopers you were lucky. (Although the shower scene had its moments.)

Better than Heinlein himself could have made it.

I like to think Heinlein didn't take himself too seriously because that would be sad.

My crazy rocket engineer grandpa was part of that crowd. I later crossed paths with Heinlein a few times, as a Science Fiction nerd, my grandpa having introduced me to Analog Science Fiction and Fact when I was seven years old. (The only reading more age inappropriate was my exposure to the Bible. I'd read that clear through by third grade, including all that crazy shit by Ezekiel... didn't know what half of it meant.)

Thankfully none of the libertarian or religious crazy I was exposed to as a child stuck. I'm a proud socialist, pacifist, and radical environmentalist.

Destination Moon, which was based in part on Rocketship Galileo.

We'll have to disagree on Starship Troopers.
