1. Art school?

WTF do we need art for?

I find this staggering and incredibly affirming. I am a musician and I am seeing the importance of the arts decreasing in our country and getting very depressed about it. My state has devastated the arts. The kids graduating and wanting to major in music are playing at the level I was in 7th grade and very few of them have ever had a private lesson.

I love this. I wish it was here.

Perhaps not in the context of public schools but I do see a lot of artistic expression, more than I did as a kid.

I have a niece that is an art teacher in a public school - she gets lots of support from the parents. Even though the school system has tried to cut her position, the parents fought that and have kept her teaching.

I also have a nephew and his wife who both are on the faculty at the New England Conservatory of music. He and his wife travels all over the world teaching music mostly to young people.

I can't imagine the mind-numbing experience of grading that mass of work. And then argue about the grades with the other 17 graders and the boss. Yikes.

And what do censors have against Winnie the Pooh?

Well, it's a nickname that social media users have coined for President Xi, which is often used derogatively.

If you search for the phrase "Winnie the Pooh" on Sina Weibo, the site brings up a message saying: "According to relevant laws, regulations and policies... search results are not displayed".
