Why is $cience Spelled With a Dollar Sign in the US?

You can get a copy of "Ulysses" free for your kindle but if you want to read a scholarly journal article that is fifty years old, you are expected to pay $25 bucks up front.

Didn't a computer hacker kill himself because they were going to send him to jail for making a bunch of scientific articles available to the public free? We the people fund much of this research. Why should we have to pay for it? Not everyone works for a university or a medical center that has a library with interlibrary loan

What is the point of "Google Scholar" if it lists articles that you can not afford to read?

Forget Wiki Leaks. We need Wiki Science.
