50 years ago, on March 8, 1968, The Fillmore East opened its doors.
Owned by famed promoter Bill Graham, it remains one of the most legendary venues in rock history, welcoming acts like The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis and more over its brief, three-year history.
Perhaps no band is as synonymous with "The Church of Rock and Roll" as the Allman Brothers, who played countless shows at the venue and recorded their quintessential Live at Fillmore East within its hallowed halls. In fact, when the venue closed its doors in June 1971, Bill Graham asked for the Allmans to be the final band to grace its stage.
50 years after its inception, we celebrate the Fillmore East's legacy with a short Allmans set, recorded live in September 1970 as a part of the Welcome To The Fillmore East television special.
