(64,995 posts)Once in a while i really want them. My wife can't stand them, though so it has to be a little pizza just with my stuff on it.
On the salad though! Pretty much any time.

(22,031 posts)I love them on pizza, salads, as part of the stuffing for chicken breasts, you name it.
But even better than the fish illustrated above are the Spanish anchovies. They aren't salted and cured like those that we know. These fish are white almost to the point of being translucent and they are so delicate in flavor and texture that my mouth is watering just thinking about them.
But I hate sardines.

(4,238 posts)was in Rome back in my college days. It was late Sunday and everything was closed except the hotel's restaurant, and they didn't have much of a selection. We asked for pizza and they said they only had one kind left, so we said we'd take it. It's Italy, how bad could the pizza be? We noticed something blackish encircling the top of the pie and had no idea what it was. We tasted it, and threw it back. Fearing whatever was placed on the pizza had spoiled, we asked the waiter what we were eating. No, it wasn't spoiled, it was just anchovies. Never again!

(22,250 posts)When in Spain I ate more varieties of fish and ate it more often than I have in the 35 years since.
So we were in Seville and ordered this fish platter to split. We had learned how to recognize hake, and there was flounder I think and octopus rings. Then there were these two different whole fish which we could not identify. Sardines and Anchovies, per our waiter. We enjoyed them !
Hake is an outstanding fish. After the first time we had it, when we found it on the menu, one of us would order it. We had it cooked several different ways.

(26,546 posts)One of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii is Dukes. They have a great Caesar salad bar. My plate typically consists of a few lettuce scraps, a spoon of dressing, a couple of croutons, some shaved Parmesan, and a pound or so of anchovies!

Love them on everything except dessert.
However they have to be packed in olive oil otherwise they can be dry. I like them plump.

(12,132 posts)i had enough seniority I could tell them I wasn't taking that stinky shit in my car. Give it to a n00b.
Nowadays I make a pretty decent green goddess dressing with anchovy paste and I can eat a Caesar salad with them in the dressing but that's about the extent of my anchovy consumption.
but man, that anchovy, lettuce, tomatoes and capers toast thing up there is making me think about it...looks delicious...
