Cats are quirky. There's no question about it. We know they like to hide in boxes and knock things over. They are persnickety about their drinking preferences.
But the latest kitty question involves a roll of tape. If you make a square on your floor, what will your cat do? Turns out a lot of cats will get inside it.

Danielle Matheson's (@prograpslady) Tweet about her mom's home experiment started the hubbub:

Amazed cat owners responded after replicating the experiment, often with tape, but others with squares made out of ribbon, sheets of paper and even shoes.
Some even shared videos of the moment:

(22,976 posts)1. I read where cats dig their own sense of scale; if you put a sweater on a king-size bed...
They'll get on the sweater 90% of the time. Or if you put, say, a towel in the middle of a large carpeted area, they'll go for the towel most of the time. There's probably something comforting in the act, and they're also claiming the scaled, lined-up spot (or box) as new territory: "This thing is MINE."

It doesnt even have to be a large area. I can put a towel on a twin bed and she will sit on it 9 times out of 10. She will always sit on a smaller space in a larger space. Unless its the cat bed I bought her, which she wouldnt even look at if it came floating by when she was drowning at sea.
