Two years after a second-century military barracks was found during the excavation of the Amba Aradam station, archaeologists last week presented the remains of a richly decorated domus, or house, that they believe belonged to the commander of the military post.
Even after the discovery of the military complex, we didnt imagine that wed find a house with a central courtyard, a fountain and at least 14 rooms, said Simona Morretta, the state archaeologist responsible for the site. One of the rooms appears to have been heated.

(6,045 posts)Makes me wonder when they find such wonderfully decorated facilities like this how were they allowed to be buried be buried in the first place?
I know many areas get buried in natural catastrophes & maybe that was the case here...I have to admit my dummy self is commenting prior to reading the article which Im about to to do now. However, there are cases when really nice artwork/architecture just seem to get buried with time & I guess it makes sense when the civilization or empires theyre associated with collapse or have been destroyed by an enemy.
Regardless, the above pics are really cool!!
