(83,654 posts)Asian, Jewish, LGBT, Women and African American. The groups have gone silent. Many chased off the board, some leaving on their own accord. They have been 'splained to one time to many.
The lights went out in the women's and African American group a long time ago. Other lights are fading. We are not that welcome here. Fact.

(34,195 posts)The LGBT group has not gone silent. About 30 O.P.'s this past month. Even I post to it from time to time.

(83,654 posts)As for the American American Group. No. The strong voices and original members are long gone. A few pass by, many can no longer post there. Some of us white people that were welcome as members have tried to post there, yet it is in fact dying and the lights are out. I still talk to many of them. Just not here. Same with the women's group. We faded away as well. We are just not that welcome here. As I said, to much 'splainin and not enough listening.

(34,195 posts)When there are 30+ posts in the AA group?
People come/people leave.
Life goes on.
sheshe2
(83,654 posts)And some are flat out run off the board.
The AA group, the heart and the soul of them are gone. You can 'splain it anyway you wish. They are gone.
Also noticed you never made mention of the women's groups. Hmm. I guess we are just not that important for your mention.

(92,061 posts)Imagine that
The fact that she makes negative value judgements on Asians because they dont want to identify themselves as Asians on DU is pretty presumptious.
There are folks who post recipes, music, scientific news, views and information relating to ethnic and demographic issues that a good number of folks do not wish to participate in. It is not too frequent that I find a poster lashing out because they dont get a minimum number of responses to their OP
In fact assuming because people who dont respond because they dont care about a post is an incorrect assumption. Some people read posts and dont respond. That doesnt mean it doesnt leave an impression on them, or they are not interested in the topic
Some folks dont want to reveal their ethnic background on a forum such as this for one reason or another, and for her to be disappointed that they dont is HER issue, not theirs, and I might add quite judgemental on her part
By the way, I am a white guy who is Jewish, and whose wife is Chinese
In fact it reminds me of a post a week or so ago where someone was upset because people didnt respond to Asian Pacific Heritage month
This was my response to that:

I viewed many of the videos that she was posting, which were fascinating and especially given it's rare to get a worldview from the Japanese perspective.

Once she gave me recommendation of a place for Vietnamese sanwhiches. They were tasty.
I suspect shes taking a break from DU. Its been 3 weeks I stopped looking at FB. One less distraction. You need it sometimes.

(17,081 posts)It's too bad - she had her own unique and welcome way of adding to the quality of Democratic Underground. One of our Good Spirits.
I found myself wondering if there was some other, un-stated influence that led to her decision. I'm sorry she decided that it was painful to be here.

(463 posts)I didnt realize. Ive mostly lurked for a few years, but I enjoyed her contributions. As someone in an interracial relationship with an Asian(hes Filipino, and I believe she was Japanese?), I always enjoyed her outlook and contribution.
I live in San Francisco, too, and shed post local cultural things that interested her. I learned and saw things based on her contributions.
Sad face.

Really hate to see people like her leave.
I certainly hope she returns also. If your lurking, Yui, we miss you.

(15,805 posts)She had the perception that no one appreciated her posts, and if there was no interest then she was done. I pointed out that she was raking in tons of Recs and getting huge viewership numbers so she had lots of fans, but she remained unconvinced.

(34,095 posts)I have lost so many friends over the years. This should not have happened. I am not here for long periods of time but I do remember her. I read a lot of what she wrote. Much was very interesting but I don't think I really ever communicated with her. Perhaps we should all remember to tell people from time to time that we like what they are saying and thank them for posting and educating them. I suspect I am not alone in not doing this. I would hope she would come back and try again.

(34,095 posts)posted today!
I think N2doc went away today. It looks like he was PPR'd. Not sure but pretty sure. Just today.
It isn't the place it used to be anyway and there are many places to discuss but I still read here because it is the best place to get a big chunk of news all in one place. If I just read off the latest news pages and not go into the threads it is fine. I miss real discussion and am sick to death of the smilie answers, especially the snarky, snotty use of them and the knee jerk "Fuck 'em" that comes when anyone who has a brain capable of thinking many different ways posts something that does not follow with the current (and usually quite stale) narratives here.
I used to care when someone posted those at me, not anymore. It just does not matter anymore when everything is so reminiscent of what we used to be amused by. Whatever, I guess.
