Or is there a disturbance in the area, some activity like yardwork or nearby construction that would scare them off. Other pets or birds too close to the feeder, or maybe just more flowers are in bloom.

if you live in Arky.

We have our usual full timer's year around. Always get a couple of Ruby Red Throats and tons if green backs. We have two pairs of Calliope's that stay year around .

During the months of march and up to three weeks ago,our bird count was in the low forties. Usual pattern is one or two hatches and move on.

acting unusually for years. Always before the number of hummers has gradually increased from early spring until late summer, when it started tapering off. This year I had many birds in early spring that suddenly dropped off to nearly nothing about 3 weeks ago.

If you follow the Hummer's feeding pattern, you will notice they are the best Weather forcaster's of nature. They will tank up and head for high ground about twelve hours before a major storm hits. Then they send their scouts back to check if their food source is in tack.

You folks have been getting hammered this spring. And these little Guys will be back if Patterns settle down. Most likely they are out in the Gum Forest for safety.

Just remember one thing,a Humming Bird has total recall of all the feeding stations they have ever visited.

Then they just went away. Every now and then I see one, but it's been weeks since I've seen more than one at a time. I've heard the same from several people in my area.

"But adult male hummingbirds are fiercely territorial and may drive all other male hummingbirds away during the spring nesting season. (Where you put your feeders can partially alleviate this—more about that below) By early July or so, after chicks fledge you may see more birds again. These numbers may grow and then decline as migration begins in late summer and early fall."

Mine are gone, too, but they aren't really gone ... they are either busy with young or they are being kept away.

They're all outside my house dive bombing me when Herself lets the feeders run dry. The hummers have learned if they dive bomb the humans, the feeders are quickly re-filled.

I live about 100 miles north of San Francisco. Usually they are here long before now. I've only seen a few. Same feeder, same place. The mobile home park I live in had tree trimmers here about two months ago and they trimmed all the trees, bushes and hedges in the park. I wonder if they scared them off? They were here working for about four days.
