(23,091 posts)I had Stage 1 cancer once (breast cancer) and Stage zero cancer twice (breast cancer in another spot and a Melanoma). They are survivable at this stage, in general, if you take quick action. It's now been 15 years since the last diagnosis and no recurrence.
Good luck!!

(7,574 posts)I came through it very well. I opted for medicine rather than chemo.....and I came through the ordeal with flying colors. I am not saying don't worry......but do not get depressed either... .You will be fine. I have been cancer free since 2002.

My Dad died of cancer 8 years ago.

(3,569 posts)I was stage 3, had my esophagus removed last May. 6 weeks chemo and radiation the removal of esophogus . Now in my leg and liver. Gone from curative to palliative care, with chemo every other week. Holding steady. No worse.
At stage one you should be fine. Let's hope anyway. The operations, the radiation and chemo, while not easy to deal with, are easier than being dead.
BTW, I am on a massive amounts of cannabis, THC & CBD, as well as the reccos by my doctor. Leaving nothing to chance.
Good luck to you. Study. Take advantage of the services available to you as well.

My friends have stepped up HUGE for me. I've got shows lined up to Fleetwood Mac in November. Dead Winter Carpenters in Tahoe tomorrow. Dead and Company, High Sierra music festival, World Fest, Guitarfish, Phish, Hangtown, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass...my friends, musicians, fellow festivarians, and online acquaintances have accomodated it all via a go fund me account my daughter started secretly.
Amazing and it touches me deeply every time someone donates. I cried like a baby yesterday after a donation.

(4,066 posts)Fortunately, you caught it in the first stage. I hope your doctors have given you a good prognosis based on the early detection. Though it may be difficult to do, I bet I'm not the only one who would welcome your sharing your journey through these difficult times with us here. We can be a support group for more than our shared dismay over politics.
As we live longer, the chances of all of us getting a cancer increase. My father passed away from prostate cancer in 1992. Had he been diagnosed with it today, he would have most likely have survived. The treatments progress all the time.

(57,077 posts)I believe we got my colon cancer stopped quick and simple. The bladder cancer really early, I've had four surgeries in the last four years. Also I've had three series of immunotherapy with a couple of individual "doses" of it several other times. It certainly beats what my mother or my dad went through with chemo, for me only a nasty two day flu and sleeping.
Today I'm starting to feel 35 again and I'm 68.
Let your Doctors know you are very interested in what is happening to you, that you want to be able to make informed decisions.
Don't let the cancer define you. But don't forget that for at least the short term is an aspect of you. It is a serious thing but these days it is less likely, a lot less likely to beat you.

(54,349 posts)I hope to welcome you to the ranks later on this year.
Catching it early is usually everything. My wife has had it twice, and the second time was one called "the murderer" here. Maybe one case in a thousand survives it (it's fairly rare). She caught that one early enough, too. She was the one in ten thousand. You CAN get through this!
Both my parents and all their siblings had cancer. With me, it's not "if" but "when" and "where." I will be joining the ranks at some point. You can stick around and join the welcome-to-the-club post (don't get me wrong, I'm in no rush, but I know it's coming).

(36,416 posts)Listen to the doctors, but believe the nurses.
The nurses will become your best friends; remember and try to do everything they tell you.
Oh, the surgery will be a snap, but it's all the crap following the surgery that will wear you down. Never give up (something the nurses will repeatedly tell you).
