(64,852 posts)Playing early morning golf and bad weather rolled in.
Starts raining kind of hard so we head in. While we're going in, we see a couple flashes. So, we park in the cart barn and go in the clubhouse.
Radar shows this might only last 20 minutes, so we hang out. We're looking to the NNW out the clubhouse window when BOOM!! lightning hits a tree about 100 feet from the clubhouse, also about 120 feet from the 18th green.
That tree was SHREDDED. The water in the tree must have boiled and that tree became splinters. It was about a 40 foot tree and it was split to 10 or 12 feet off the ground. Later, when we were out there looking at it, there was LITERALLY wood pulp as fine as sawdust laying around the based of the tree. There were splinters the size of popsicle sticks as far as the green and on the deck of the clubhouse. And boy was it loud!!!
Obviously, they had to take that tree down. It was never going to make it after that.

Author Dannion Brinkley claims he was struck by lightning on two different occasions, once while he was on a telephone during a thunderstorm.....I believe him!
