Don't forget to drink plenty of fluids.

Hot town, summer in the city! With highs in the upper 90s throughout the upcoming week, remember to stay hydrated! Limit your time outdoors and check on those more susceptible to the heat, such as the elderlyand pets.

And watch out. If you've been sweating and then you're not and it's been a while since you drank anything, it's a sign of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

The body is trying to cool down by sweating. Get indoors, drink water, lie down, damp cool cloths at the pulse points helps.

Heat stroke: Flushed, dry skin, dizzy, weakness, disorientation. Temperature rapidly rises above 105F. The body is dehydrated and can't regulate its temperature. Extremely dangerous condition. Call 911. In the mean time, get victim out of the sun, if they're conscious have them drink lots of tepid water. If you can soak them in water, if they can get in bath tub or shower, good. If not, throw buckets of water on them or use a garden hose. Minimum, wrap their chest and head with wet cool towels. The body must be cooled down as quickly as possible.

Exhaustion: Miserable and can cause stroke, if not treated

Stroke: Can kill you.

Drink water, lots of water.

My 87 years young Mother called me from her Assisted Living Facility. It seems that the Nuns told her about the heat, and they were making sure everyone there was Hydrated. So she thought to call ME to make sure that I was OK

This is a full-sun plant, mind you.

But 100 degrees in full sun... only paddle cactus and agaves are happy.

4. Don't drink 'fluids'. Drink water. Hydration equals water.

I was reading a book about how Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Co, and other soft drink manufacturers often sponsor youth athletic events, with the proviso that only their brand of beverages is served at sponsored events. They do this under the rubric of 'hydration'.

This is very dangerous, as sodas contain high levels of sodium, and of course, sky-high levels of High Fructose Corn Syrup, which is very unhealthy for anyone to consume, especially children.

Make sure you stay hydrated with water, not something that comes with a corporate brand.

Told me that things such as coffee and tea had half the value of water and it went down from there. Soda and alcohol don't come close.
