Although technically not a "comedy"..since people do get killed in it.

Probably more of a "dramatic comedy" ..or "dramedy"

I've probably seen it at least 25 times; and I usually don't really care for Travolta.

but my favorite Dennis Farina film has to be Get Shorty

A former-Chicago cop for 18 years, Farina was arrested in 2008 for carrying a loaded 22-caliber pistol through the LA airport, a misdemeanor.
He claimed he had simply forgotten the weapon was still in his briefcase, and had never intended to take it on the plane.
After LAPD determined the gun was unregistered, the charges were upgraded to a felony.
After reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors, Farina pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years probation.

...it's unique, to say the least. Sort of "Northern Exposure" meets "The Sopranos"...

For fans of The Sopranos, you'll remember the GREAT Robert Loggia / "Feech LaManna" story arc. Gets out of prison, immediately tries to reclaim his turf (they did the same thing with David Proval's "Richie Aprile" in Season 2).

What made Lilyhammer different is that it's clear that Steven Van Zandt's "Frank Tagliano" WANTS to get back in the game, but he EASES his way into it, goes for the "brick by brick" method.

SPEAKING of Robert Loggia, his Minute Maid commercial is easily one of the GREATEST commercials of ALL TIME.

This is a 1950 movie that turns out to be very timely for us. Broderick Crawford brilliantly plays a crude guy with underworld connections who wants to run for President. Judy Holliday plays his naïve gun moll. William Holden plays a reporter who teaches her (and us) about our rights and responsibilities as US citizens.

Carl Reiner directs Steve Martin in a pastiche of clips from classic noirs, cleverly intercutting then-current footage to fashion a completely absurdist story-line.

Not every gag works, but some are inspired. It also makes you want to see the complete, uncut classics (recontextualized in clips here).

Set in Norway, considered a "dark comedy" rather than straight out comedy. It's things like the contrast between the Norwegian crime gang and Serbian gang that will make you smile with appreciation. And the scenery is beautiful. Unique and memorable movie.

One thing - do NOT watch the dubbed version! I watched the original Norwegian version with subtitles on Netflix a few years ago. I just checked Netflix now and it's an overdubbed version. I checked some of it out and it's terrible. Completely destroys the atmosphere of the movie.

Amazon has the original version with subtitles.
