So I can cut him some slack.

Besides, I think he was more of a "fiscal responsibility" Republican and not a batshit crazy frothing-at-the-mouth win-at-any-cost-even -treason-against-the-US Republican. I think he would be horrified at the state of the party (and the country) today.
