(38,309 posts)Even the Star Trek franchise has gone dark. I don't like the reboots at all.
One of the things I liked about the Star Trek TNG television series is that I could imagine an Earth where humans are for the most part respectful and kind to one another, nobody is hungry or homeless or denied medical care, and the technocracy unobtrusively hums along in the background as people go about their daily business.
There are plenty of opportunities for comedy, romance, and drama in a non-dystopian science fiction environment. Dystopia has become a lazy gimmick.
