There was a pull-out chopping board just like the one in this kitchen. I used it a lot, but it never occurred to me to pull up a chair and sit down to chop! Maybe it was because I was fairly young then (it was in the late 80s and the 90s), and didn't need to sit down for such a task. Now, in my very modern kitchen, I keep a variety of chopping boards in a slotted tray cabinet. But if I have a lengthy task (shelling a bunch of fava beans or skinning hazelnuts), I take it over to a table and SIT, so my hips don't hurt.

I think the kitchen in the film is very well planned, especially for being so small. I wish I had that pull-out chopping board now!

My MIL has one in her kitchen. Perfect height to work dough.

The kitchen has been reconfigured and that cabinet abuts the refrigerator. In same cabinet is a deep drawer with a sliding metal perforated lid; maybe a breadbox. This is one reason I've refused to get new cabinets.

There was no up rising inflection/up speak at the end of her sentances? You hear it alot from Ausies now and the American kids do it also.. So I think it started after 1955???
