when Pavarotti fell ill, Aretha Franklin stepped up to the plate.

At the 1998 Emmys, word came that Pavarotti was ill and would not perform. With literally 2 minutes notice, Aretha Franklin agreed to step in for her friend. She may have been the Queen of Soul, but on this night she was the queen of so much more.

Although I'm not a big fan of the music genre, I do know what it takes for a great performance, and this is a great performance. What truly amazes me is her being able to step in on two minutes notice and do such an amazing job. As I understand it, she listened to a little bit of Pavarotti singing the song just to get a feel of how he would do the song so she could do it justice. She excelled.

That was truly wonderful. But then, it comes as no surprise to see that she had classical training. It was an honor to have such a musical talent with us and a sorrow that she is gone.

I did not know that she filled in for Pavarotti! I even admire Ms. Franklin more than ever!

RIP dear Lady!
