Need help with Android (Droid Turbo 2) messaging

Hi there,
Hubby and I need to get new phones and we're looking at the Samsung Note 9 (hoping it doesn't blow up). That said, I have a question about our text messages.

First, both my husband and I don't understand a thing about this stuff and frankly, we just started texting about a year ago (yes!!). That said, there are texts I really want to keep.

We've been using Messenger+ and were told it doesn't back up and may not transfer to the new phone. As we won't get a new phone until this or next weekend, we have time to do some backing up.

So I have the following questions:
1. Is there an app that leaves the texts "in the cloud" or that automatically backs up? If so, what is that app?
2. Is there a way to transfer the texts we already have in Messenger+ and transfer it to the other app for backup?

Yes, I'll post this in the computer group but wanted to know all your opinions too. Please be very specific - neither one of us have any idea what is going on and the guys at Verizon aren't very helpful.

Thanks

Paula

Most phones come with some stock apps. Do you know how to view all of your AP?
