Younger people, here is some more advice for you.

During a job interview, you may be asked about a large gap in employment that is on your resume.

The correct answer to this is always "That's personal, and none of your goddamn business".

Immediately, you should follow that statement up with "Now, when you give me this job, how many vacation days do I start off with"?

The interviewer will admire you for being so candid and up front.

Just a little trick that I learned a long time ago, and I wanted to pass it on.

I took a year off to go scuba dive at various locations around the Caribbean. I wanted to do this while I was young and relatively healthy enough to undergo the stress of the sport. I took a year of retirement early.

(I also was a Dive Master and Dive Instructor... but I usually leave that out).

The next job I had after returning from my "walkabout" I stayed there for 10 years.

resume’ or were dressed inappropriately. Most were completely bored with the whole process. But the best one was an applicant who came in, sat down and the first thing she said was, “Ok, let’s talk about the important stuff. How much?”
