(57,290 posts)Victor Charles Buono (February 3, 1938 January 1, 1982) was an American actor, comic, and briefly a recording artist. He was known for playing the villain King Tut on the television series Batman (19661968) and musician Edwin Flagg in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), the latter of which earned him Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations. He was a busy actor from his late teens until his death at age 43 and, with his large size and sonorous voice, he made a career of playing men much older than he was.....

Buono played the villain King Tut on the television series Batman. A Jekyll-and-Hyde character, William McElroy is a timid Yale professor of Egyptology who, after being hit in the head with a brick at a peace rally, assumes the persona of the charismatic, monomaniacal Egyptian King Tut. When he suffers another blow to the head, the villain recovers his meek academic personality. The role, which proved to be the most frequently featured original villain in the series, was one of Buono's favorites because he was delighted at being able to overact without restraint.

(57,290 posts)I actually taped a program yesterday. I have no way of saving digital over-the-air TV shows to hard drive or whatever. I don't have a DVR with a built-in tuner. I don't have any DVR.

(22,977 posts)I saw an old 'Tonight Show' rerun a couple of months back and he came on to read his poetry. Mostly about how much he loved to eat. Funny!
King Tut was my second favorite villain, second only to the Joker.

(27,771 posts)I got the same info as above when I looked it up. 1933-1982.
on edit: I see the confusion now, I was commenting on Victor Buono not Frank Gorshin.

(47,534 posts)He does look like a cross between Douglas and Lancaster.
(Also, a lightning bolt just hit me from back in the 60s. Frank Gorshin did mad impressions. I bet you can find him somewhere out there doing a passable version of each.)

(5,914 posts)But his Burt and Kirk were my favorites. Dead on and absolutely hilarious.
He is, IMHO, the greatest impressionist of all time. Rich Little had nothing on him. The way Gorshin was able to snap his whole body and voice instantly from character to character was less like other conventional comics of the day and more like Jim Carrey or Robin Williams, which is why he was also such a great Riddler.
