I remember reading Spiderman comics when I was a kid. I remember the beginning of one story, in which Spiderman comes swinging in the window of his apartment after a long, bruising night of crime-fighting. Peter Parker takes off his mask, and sits down to repair the rips in his costume.

Even then I remember thinking: "What other superhero has to sew his outfit back up with needle and thread?"

It was amusing, and a little endearing.
