Do they realize that in many parts of this country, they wouldn't be considered a "family"

(64,995 posts)There is a heavy libertarian streak among engineers and other technical people around here. I'm unabashedly liberal so they occasionally will ask, "Why would you vote for democrats when you make and have the kind of money you do." May answer has been, for years, "I'm far too educated to believe in the silliness Republicans peddle."

(5,812 posts)I had a friend with an Irish first name and a Hispanic last name. Her mother's family, although not Irish, had nothing to do with her because she was half Hispanic and her mother, their daughter had married a <ugly name for a Mexican>. Back then, marrying out of your ethnicity, let alone race, often caused a giant rejection by the "offended" family. Another case in point -- a Caucasian female married a man of Japanese descent. Her family disowned her.
The above pictured pair are clueless beyond belief. Maybe someone should send them a copy of the case of Loving v. Virginia (1967) 388 US 1, 87 S. Ct. 1817, 18 L. Ed. 2d 1010. Perhaps their parents and most certainly for sure their grandparents would have been arrested and prosecuted in some states for interracial parenthood.

(5,812 posts)The movie based on the case is one of my all time favorite movies. There is nothing better than finding a great love. And...the Loving case was a basis for the Same Sex Marriage case ruling by SCOTUS. So sad that the couple in that picture are so hateful and so clueless. Families come in many varieties and what is a family for some is not the only way a family is formed.
