Doing something totally different on Thanksgiving
I called a local Chinese Restaurant and asked if I can order whole Steamed Crab for dinner. The owner told me if I can call on Wednesday before hand they will get one for me. One year, I tried to order and the waitress told me it was "Out of season". I asked the owner if that was the case and he had said they were fresh out, so I ended up ordering Peking Duck, which was really, really good. But My favorite dish is Dungeness Crab, and so I have stashed away some cash, and will call that Wednesday, and see about getting a wonderful Crab dinner. Its so good to have a great Chinese restaurant near by, if you like that sort of thing!
For those of you who have never had Dungeness Crab, its kinda like sweet Maine Lobster...but there is far more meat inside.. it takes a nutcracker and small fork to work out the meat, but its just perfect dipped in Melted Lemon Butter... just like Lobster. OMG! It makes a great soup, if there are any leftovers, and there is so much, there will be!

or someone bringing out the Ham dinner, which I don't eat, is kind of boring. So I go with what Asians like to eat when celebrating. They often go with Peking duck which is just succulent and rich with flavor, but I thought, I did that last year...I wanta do something special and since my favorite dish in the entire world is Dungeness Crab (Also a kind of San Francisco symbol! You see it at Fisherman's wharf..!!)

Its also my favorite dish, and I often have it on my birthday, but why not on a holiday! Yay!
the best place to get high end seafood is Scoma's. There is one at 1965 Al Scoma Way (So famous, the have their own road!) or you could check out Sam's Grill & Seafood Restaurant 374 Bush St, San Francisco, CA, (they have been around since 1867!!) and have some of the best seafood in the city. If you like Chinese, in the sunset is Riverside Seafood Restaurant 1201 Vicente street, serve excellent Chinese seafood! In Chinatown, where the prices maybe a little bit higher is the Great Eastern Restaurant 649 Jackson St in the city! Some great eats in the city if you know where to look.

oh, and I want to plug one more place, In Japantown. KushiTsuru, some of the best sushi, miso soup and Japanese dishes in the city!
its MY GO-TO place when I want to go out and have great Japanese food! I used to know the manager there, because after college classes, I would bring my friends there to study and eat in peace! Wonderful place!
Dungenous Crab Cocktail.
I think i read a post a while ago that indicated u were in SF. If not, my bad. The Dungeoness cocktail is still solid there though. 
. Great starter for the cioppino, which is also pretty good there.
but if I am going out, I would start with Steamed clams, to be followed by Crab!
Had this at Sam's Grill,(address mentioned above) because they really make you feel special when you go there. Who else, gives you an entire loaf of Sour dough bread before your meal, (and you can take it to go, if you wish!) that is if you don't eat it all. I usually need room for the good stuff so i get a to-go bag for the bread and tabs of real butter.
Turkey, especially a big one, will do... By the way, I have heard that KFC offerers deep fried Turkey on Thanksgiving.. it be great to sneak a few of those on a dish to make people croon over dinner!
