I'm planning on watching a bunch of Ted talks over Thanksgiving break. What are your favorites?

(54,369 posts)I'm part of another kind of gathering. Very few one-sided lectures, and participation is a requirement, not an option, much less a privilege. We always meet over New Year's. If you don't have something to contribute, you aren't invited.
The first time we attended, my (then-) 16 year old daughter was invited to be on a panel about heroes (i.e. who yours were). She was practically in tears, since she had grown up in Germany, where the "hero" concept was still related to the Nazi notion of the Teutonic hero, and was still very much frowned upon. I told her, look, these kids are mostly American, so they have a completely different perspective. Just tell them straight out why the notion is foreign to you, and they'll respect it. Sue enough, after her panel was done, she came back beaming, and said we were right, they found her contribution to the discussion to be the freshest and most interesting one of the group.
TED talks are a different animal altogether, from what I can tell, so if you come with some really great ones, please post links!

(7,809 posts)I've watched ones with Monica Lewinsky, Sue Klebold (mother of one of the Columbine shooters), James Veitch (hilarious - he replied to spam emails and how he tricked the tricksters), Hyeonseo Lee (she escaped from North Korea). These are all on YouTube.
