And that extent is not finding one of the little fish full of roe. I have a strong stomach, but finding that was more than I could handle.

Personal opinion. One of the foods I understand people enjoy straight from the tin, but to me it tastes like something the dog rolled in

I know they are good for you and I've tried to like them, but I just can't. From the funky taste to the mushy texture -

Small oily cold water fish.. Full of ?3 fatty acids like Salmon... and less expensive.. I get the brisling sardines from the north Atlantic... in water.. I like my own EVOO...
I get some sourdough and cut it thin for toast.. Sherri vinegar, sardines and alvovado..
Delish!! Alton Brown came up with this I think and it's brill!

They're still delicious with pop tops, but I liked the whole ritual of breaking breaking off the key and unrolling the top.

.....I can't hardly find any bone-in, skin-on anymore. What's left is.....mush! And for a real treat, try cod livers. Canned, in the same section with sardines. Or on Amazon. No, I'm not kidding. Delicious!

If you can find 'em try the King Oscar brand.. They are from Norway and they are European sprats... aka Brisling sardines.. Skin on and bone in... Delish.. the only brand I get.

My college roommate and one of the women across the hall loved them. Her roommate and I hated them. When they went into a sardine frenzy, we found something else to do and left our rooms with orders to deposit the cans on another floor.

Now fresh sardines are a different thing. We ate them in Spain, fried crispy and on a fish platter. We did not know what we had, except it was good. Turns out we had fresh sardines and fresh anchovies (another abomination when canned) Needless to say we were shocked!
