I found my first BFF after 53 years.

He lived across the street from me. We met in Kindergarten and his family moved away two years later. And I never heard from him again. But I missed him. He was the perfect playmate. I continually looked across the street at the window where his bedroom was, almost hoping he was still there.

I tried Facebook. Nothing. Tried google. Nothing.

I finally found him on Linked In. I sent a message, showing that I knew his name, his address, where we went to school, the name of his cousin. Not much to go on.

And yesterday, after 3 weeks, he e-mailed me back. And he was delighted to find me.

I can't tell you how happy I am. We're catching up on the years apart and sending photos.

I was determined not to give up and a miracle happened.

(No, I don't want to marry him and he's happily married with grandkids. I'm just glad to have reconnected.)

Glad you found your BFF. I’d love to catch up with some friends I knew way, way back in the early 70’s. I would spend summers up my great-grandmothers house and used to have a great time with kids from the neighborhood. 🤔😀

I got a message on Facebook out of the blue in (mostly) Swedish with a few misspellings that would be typical of someone who lived in Denmark. It was from a guy who had been on the boat I was on when I returned from living in Spain in the late sixties. I last saw him in Sweden in 1970. At the time, I spoke no Swedish myself. He was one of the reasons I had started to learn Swedish in the first place. I liked him and his crowd, and felt like an idiot hanging around with them being the only one who understood nothing that was being said, while they all spoke good English.

Then a few months ago, I got a message in this mish-mosh Scandinavian, and sure enough it was him, who had now been living in Denmark for a few decades. He laughed at the fact that my written Swedish was now better than his. He had observed our descent into hell with Trump, and out of the blue decided to look me up--after 48 years!--and ask how this could happen to us. He had seen from a few other posts that I had followed through with my promise--from 1970!!--that I would learn Swedish.

It makes me wonder how many other blasts from the past are going to pop into my life before I pop out of it.
