(62,387 posts)Thanks
I bought Mr. froggy's at Mark Holdaway's online kalimba store, Kalimba Magic. He's the person playing the kalimba in the video. I bought a Hugh Tracey Alto 15-note with built-in pickup for amplifier, which is what I think Mark Holdaway is playing in the video.
You can find less expensive kalimbas elsewhere online, but not all are of good quality and some even have sharp tines that hurt players' thumbs.
Mr. froggy is going to have lots of fun with his Christmas present, I think.

(3,275 posts)My brother gave me a membership to a museum a few years ago. It was the best present. I went all the time. I like experiences as gifts like tickets to a show, a class in a new activity, tour of a historic place, restaurant gift card, boat ride around the city, winery tour etc.
dawg day
(7,947 posts)I think I'll ask for that for Christmas. At our museum, even one visit is $18, believe it or not, so a membership would mean I could go more often.

(11,905 posts)Been wanting one for a year or so, and the price came down. He already gave it to me so I could pick out a camera bag and strap, and figure out how to use it (RTFM) before we head to the in-laws in FL. You can do manual settings as well as preset. A huge step up from my old Panasonic LUMIX 8.
He was torn between that and a Dyson Animal for pet hair. I might be getting that later since our Kenmore vacuum is so old its almost impossible to find bags for it anymore.
Other than those items, our family present is renting a house near my in-laws for a visit before Xmas. It means we dont have to stay with a house of Trumpers, and we made sure we rented one that only slept 4 😏 so the other Trumpers (SILs family) cant share our house.

(2,343 posts)Take all that money we spend on defense every year, TRILLIONS of dollars, and instead use it to clothe and feed all the poor people of the world, NOT ONE PERSON EXCLUDED (which it would pay for many times over). Then, we could explore the universe, peacefully, as one race for eternity.
That's what i want for christmas.

Personally, I want a pair of hiking boots. We're going to Alaska next year and were told to have them broken in before we get there. It's been 40 years since I last bought a pair and have no idea what I need, but guess it's time to go to the OUtdoors store and ask questions. If anyone has any suggestions for decent boots that are not expensive, comfortable and sturdy for hiking over rocks, I'd appreciate it.

(22,231 posts)A long visit for us with our daughter in Phoenix.
We will have Christmas Eve with her and her husband at the International House of In-Laws.
Seriously
I have attended parties there with Kurds, Iraqis, Egyptian, Asian, Latino, Greek, Iranians, and probably others I just didn't know about.
The food is amazing - everybody brings something.
My daughter made Mac and Cheese for the first Thanksgiving she shared with this family and now she is the Official Purveyor of Macaroni and Cheese to the Able Household.
It will be fun ! We are going to take a roadtrip to Painted Desert/Petrified Forest for a couple of days. Checking another National Park off my list!

(21,596 posts)Get a ukulele tuner, a small chord chart, a neck strap, and a soft sided backpack case for her new ukulele.

(21,596 posts)Some ukuleles have a button/snap attachment for a regular guitar type strap, but the nylon neck strap clips onto the opening on the front of any ukulele.
Ukuleles are so portable, so a soft sided backpack ukulele case is fun and practical.
There are lots of chord charts. Look for one that will fold up or is small enough to fit in the case.
The Snark ukulele tuner is a must! The strings, starting from the top (closest to you when holding your ukulele), are GCEA.
I am no great musician or singer, but ukuleles are perfect for beginners, but also for very accomplished musicians as well.
You probably bought a soprano. There are several other smaller and larger sizes of ukuleles as well as banjoleles and mandoleles!
There are so many awesome Youtube video tutorials as well as ukulele websites with lyrics and uke chords for 1,000s of songs!
Check for local ukulele groups. Ukers are a friendly group and the best way to learn is by learning from and playing with other ukers. Private lessons to start her off would be good, then search out local ukers!
Have fun!
