The original joke goes
Q) "How cold was it?"
A) "It was so cold, I saw a Democrat with his hands in his own pocket"

I do occasionally write my own jokes,
For example, a couple of weeks ago I wrote:

Q) "What's the difference between Donald Trump and a turkey?"
A) "One is a bald, plump, gallinaceous creature that waddles around squawking all day, while the other is a type of bird."

back in 1975.
They couldn't call it "Saturday Night Live" then because Howard Cosell already had a new show on ABC called "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell"
.so it was originally called "NBC's Saturday Night"
(That's why they say "Live, from New York, it's Saturday Night"]

(Cosell's show was a flop and didn't last long).

The host of the show's debut episode in October, 1975 was George Carlin.
Steve Martin has hosted the show 15 times.
Alec Baldwin has hosted it 17 tiimes.

SNL has been on for 44 seasons and has won 65 Emmy Awards.
