Sometimes I look at my pup sleeping next to me and I think

Last edited Sun Dec 30, 2018, 02:29 AM - Edit history (1)

my heart is going to burst. We adopted her from rescue this summer and we're just madly in love with her. I can't believe we got so lucky. Just feeling thankful tonight.

ETA...because of personal circumstances, I can't post of photo (as much as I'd love to share her adorableness). But I'd love to see photos of your pups and kitties, etc.!

3. We have 5 dogs.

Each one has a distinct personality and we love them all madly.

But our Bennie hears me sit up in bed in the morning and comes from wherever he was and hops up in bed next to me and wants his morning cuddle. Every. Single. Morning.

(And our newest who is 11 months old is beginning to copy him.)

4. Ooh! You're so lucky!

Our baby girl is incredibly affectionate and loves to be petted and give kisses, but for the first few months was VERY skittish about being held. I suspect she may have been restrained or caged a lot as a puppy before we got her (she was 16 months old when we adopted her). Possibly kept in a small crate even as she grew?

Anyway, just in the last few weeks she's come around big time. She cuddled on my lap for two hours as we watched a movie and now loves to be curled at my side while I watch TV or sleep. What a breakthrough!

I'm so glad for you the Bennie is teaching the little one to be a cuddle bug!

She's sweet, but full of mischief.

28. They do add so much to our lives.

My latest rescue is six-months-old now and still challenging at times: barking, peeing in the house, (ate a shoe today, LOL) but at night she snuggles up as close to me as she can with her head right under my chin and any frustrations with her melt away. My heart has been stolen a second time. Her sister, my other rescue (11-years-old) stole it first. I just wish I had the lifestyle and yard to rescue more. They are such pure, noble creatures and we really don't deserve them.

With their snuggles and their big expressive eyes. LOL!

It's true, we don't deserve the pure love they give. But I'm grateful they give it. If I had the money and space I'd have so many more rescues. One for now, but we may get her a sibling since she seems to love other dogs so much.

59. My experience with a second has been fabulous for my older girl.

She has well-controlled Addison's disease and is getting up there for a dog her size, so I really struggled over whether she should have a "sibling." I was afraid she'd feel left out or jealous. The result has been the opposite. She now runs and plays and looks and acts so frisky. I'm not sure it's added any time to her life, but it has made her life happier. They often sleep together with their legs around each other. Now I wish I had done it sooner. So worth it. That said, still all dogs and situations are different. I've dog-sat several dogs over the years and my older girl was just "meh" about another dog. I think the new one has to be the right one and you never know, it's hit or miss.

35. The feeling is mutual

My boy, Shelby (right) can't get enough petting and cuddling. He is 2 and in training for a dog sport called Rally Obedience. My girl, Layla (left) competes in dog agility and still burns through courses at 8 1/2. She will get in bed with me and must spoon against my belly for quite a while, so warm. They can be little shits and are smart with their tricks, being herding dogs, but those eyes get them off the hook. If I scold Shelby for anything he runs over and gives me those pet me eyes.

I was pretty anxious. In the past, I've adopted older dogs, but I still think of Jack as my puppy, he found me at 5 months. It's tough for me to accept that he turned 12 this year, but I've read that dental issues can be a problem with smaller dogs and he really is back to his former self.
