Checklist before 12 inches of snow arrives covered in ice:

Clean out oven: when the power goes out we'll need heat.
Wash stovetop and extra saucepans.
Find candles and flashlights.
Check battery supply.
Brew extra coffee before going to bed

I don't mind the snowstorm but the thought of sitting here in the dark isn't a happy one.

Stay warm and dry

I learned that when we lost power for several days a few years ago. It was hard to get started without my morning cup.

Safe warm!

Bring solar lanterns, power supplies an radio in from sun porch.

Charge 12 volt USB-equipped starter battery

Fill (metal tubular) kerosene lanterns (1400 BTU) each - light and heat.

Refresh instructions on how to use kerosene heater (never used).

Bring Sterno stove and fuel out from hiding.

Get out the fire extinguisher.

Gas up the snow blower.

Buy some sake

Except now I have to plan for hurricanes. So battery fans rather than heat.
I have a GAS stove and I also have a pour-over coffeepot. We still need to get a generator at some point -- I keep mentioning it to my husband but I think the idea makes him as nervous as me (that electricity stuff is scary).

We just haven't set aside enough extra money to have an electrician hook it up.

The oven on our gas stove should keep us warm.

I grind beans for coffee. Guess I can grind a few pots of premeasured beans and wrap them in filters, then pour boiling water. I've got to dig out more stuff. Washing things I haven't used in a year will take a small bit of time. If the power is out I'll be glad I took time to prepare today.

I can even cook on it if I have too. Certainly good for warming up tea.

We are getting large amounts of rain today, that may turn to snow this evening. Time to dig out the insulated overalls before heading to the barn. Down to 12 degrees next couple nights.

1. Fill bathtub - water for flushing toilet

2. Five gallon bucket of drinking water and a good supply of bottled water

3. Check for enough gasoline for generator

4. Batteries in LED lanterns

5. Charge cells and kindles

6. Have gas stove (can warm stuff) and self made canned food, so no problem there. Lots of food for the pets.

7. Have lots of coffee and chocolate - good to go

Hoping for y'all. Our 5 gallon jugs last approximately about 3 days, total, not each.

GOOD karma. This storm got started up here. I love our weather; it's always interesting. But I try not to hesitate (Katrina, etc.) to help.

I'm just weird that way.
