"Cinema Paradiso' fans - do you prefer the released 2 hour version or the original long version?

Talk about an alternate ending. Nearly an hour was lopped off of the original.

1. I loved the original. The music always leaves me with a lump in my throat.

I didn't know there was an alternate ending. If you tag it with a SPOILER ALERT warning, can someone post what that alternate ending was?

3. Sure ** SPOILER ALERT ****

In the original Toto meets the daughter of his long lost love and recognizes her resemblance. He then tracks her (Elena) down and confronts her on why she disappeared.

I will leave the rest unanswered.

Edit to add - the nostalgia envelopes Toto like a heavy fog.

4. The longer edited out ending is fully described under 'Directors Cut' on Wikipedia

Roger Ebert gave the shorter version 3 1/2 stars out of 4 and gave 4 out of 4 for the extended version.

I have only seen the shorter version and didn't know about the extended version until reading this post tonight but I will definitely seek out the extended version now!

5. I have a copy of the Director's Cut

And I must say, it's far too long.
