1. Exactly!!! I hate those *&^% things!
What REALLY pisses me off about them is without fail, you get that screen AFTER you have waded through a kerjillion other screens wanting to know almost everything except what hand you use to wipe. You don't WANT to have to re-enter all that crap, so you feel obligated to try in spite of how stoopid it is.
Oh--have you EVER tried the sound version of those things? That is really F***ed up too!! ![]() Laura |

2. Agreed. I have to guess about 25% of the content.
Surely it's not too difficult to make it readable.

3. The worst part is, they are totally unnecessary
There are at least two less intrusive ways to fight spam:
1) The math problem. A simple math problem is displayed; you type the answer in the form. This should work well unless you're Sarah Palin. ![]() 2) The "honeypot" approach. Some geekery is in order here: A spambot is programmed to fill in any form it sees. So, you simply place a form somewhere where it will never show up onscreen. If it comes back filled in, the spambot is busted. |

4. The stupidest thing about captchas?
They're all beatable.
Either through automated means, or by sending a copy of the image to China, where people will enter captchas for you for a very, very small amount of money. |

5. So moronic and so irritating. Just come out and say you don't want any traffic.
Jeez. No, I'm not a machine, and NO I CAN'T READ YOUR SQUIGGLE.
