The penultimate GAME OF THRONES poll

Who "wins" the throne in the end?

My wife has been watching some early seasons recently to see if there were som clues or foreshadowing. I get it. I see how people really love this show. These were pre-Red Wedding Episodes.

*the battle two weeks ago was the first full episode I'd watched. I watched last week's show. M I've has even all n from the beginning so..obviously .. I've been given context and background.

As I said my wife was watching early episodes (rainy day) and I got to see the beginning. Sort of.
All the main players go away and you see how the game plays out. Very funny especially Tyrion and not just because he's a dwarf. Very well written. Pretty brutal violence.

When they followed the books that written by George Martin, right up to the end of season 7.
Season 8, this season, was not from his books, he had not written the ending to the series, and it sure shows.

melt the iron throne to make ballot boxes.

dead by tomorrow morning : cersei, euron, the mountain (loser of a very close "clegane bowl" grey worm, drogon (the last dragon? maybe not .....)

final 4: danaerys, john snow, gendry, and jaime lannister. wild cards : arya, bronn, tyrion, sansa, the mysterious "new prince of dorne.&quot

also, there is still a red priestess in the neighborhood so resurrection is possible. also that guy who turned the dead mountain into a zombie......

I picked Gendry because he represents the closest to the "winner" in the War of the Roses. The three-eyed raven may be the ultimate "winner" as someone posted here recently, but not in the sense of sitting on the throne.

Note - limited knowledge of the show

He has no reason to want the throne. He can just be there regardless of who is on the throne.

BUT - as my wife pointed out - there's a reason the Ice King wanted to kill him

Knew I couldn't handle the violence in the show. Some day I may need to find out the rest of the story.

On edit: do we know who Jon Snow's parents are?

They were married, so he is not a bastard but the rightful heir to the throne - not that that matters a whole lot.

Robert Baratheon took the throne from the Targaryeons. He is the last rightful king and Gendry is his heir.

The Targaryans ruled for 300 years when Baratheon took the throne after staritng a war due to being jilted.

And Ned Stark died in the first season. The most recent shows - after everyone knew Jon's true heritage - had everyone from Tyrion to Varys saying that Jon had the stronger claim than even Danerys, with Gendry not even being mentioned. Sorry, but you are completely worng on this one. FWIW I picked Gendry to win the throne if anyone does (and I'm not sure it will matter in the end) but not because he has the strongest claim but because it follows the War of the Roses storyline, at least the closest.

Gendry's claim rests on being legitimized by the Queen - Dany. Stannis was the last Baratheon that had a conquest claim to the throne. It could be argued that Gendry is 1st in line of succession after Dany. The fact that Robert was still trying to kill Targaryens shows his claim was shaky.

Folks seem to forget that Jon renounced his claim to titles when he joined the Night's Watch. Good luck proving that he came back from the dead thus invalidating that oath.

I think it all could be moot anyway depending on what happens this week. Looked from the preview that Dany was standing with her troops in front of some steps, maybe the Red Keep, but that didn't look like there was much left after her dragon was done with it. In the War of the Roses the rise of the Tudor line brought an end to the reign of the Plantagenents, who are like the Targaryens in this story in that thye ruled for centuries. If that model holds then neither Dany nor Jon will rule. I think the three-eyed raven will be the central player in the finale. Awww, it's all just fantasy anyway.

still feeling it. But, I'd like to cast a second vote for "Dany must die." Don't even care about the "to make sense" part, lol! I've never liked her and after her extra crazy shit last night ...
