The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSunday is music day.
Jack and Greg and Rick and Jon and me play for a few hours.
Jack is the lead player--he can play most anything--played on the
road for years. Greg is an obstinate old bass player. Rick is a fairly good
drummer. He gets 180 degrees out occasionally, after turn arounds.
Jon plays flute and tenor sax. Some smooth solos. I am the rhythm
player. I know hundreds of chords. Give me a key and I'm there.
We have a chat at first, then share a doobie. Tune up and laugh a bit.
Then someone breaks into one of our tunes and everyone jumps in.
We look around at each other, nodding, knowing what's happening.
If it goes well, and it often does, we look around again at the end,
and know it was cool..

(25,816 posts)In spite of all the weirdness of the players, etc., it's
fun. I look forward to Sunday.
I use to play out. Now I sit in a chair in my band shed.
Normal starting time at nine o'clock is my bedtime now.
But afternoons are good.

Easier when we were 20-somethings.
