It's a shame they never really got to know each other. They could have had dual birthday celebrations.

(66,308 posts)My father, I'm sorry to say, was a bit of a braggart. He was vain, insecure, petty, and standoffish. All of that makes sense when one realizes what a cataclysmic childhood he had. He was a highly-intelligent, immensely gifted person. And my mother always said that a truly extraordinary person could have emerged from that if he hadn't had such a rotten childhood.
My father-in-law, on the other hand, was genial, friendly, kind, generous, and a lot of fun to be around. I owe to him the fact that I married Mrs. Aristus. After the first few times I met him, she said "If Dad likes you, I know you're okay."
I'm afraid to say I miss him more than I miss my own father...
