Have got to have a MRI and some sort of specialized eye doctor.
He has ordered a walker, and he asked if I had a family history of MS.
So I was scared before, now I'm terrified.

(16,254 posts)I have a caregiver who has had MS for 5 years or so. If she hadn't told me, I wouldn't know. She said it first showed up in her eyesight, but she reads constantly, so that is no longer a problem.
Good luck.

(7,947 posts)There are a dozen drugs available now that help abate the symptoms and slow the progress.
You very likely know people who have MS... and you don't know it because they are on medications that modify the effects.
(It can still be a terrible disease for those who don't respond to treatment and go into the "progressive" phase... but early detection and treatment helps many.)
Hang in there. Make sure you have a neurologist who is aware of all the latest medications (there is a new one out every year or so!). The MS society has a lot of information--

(6,251 posts)She was diagnosed more than 30 years ago. Still lives alone. Uses a cane and has braces on her lower legs, to keep her ankles from drooping. Well, not really braces, more like a plastic piece that wraps halfway around the back of each calf and then turns a right-angle under the foot.
MS is not a death sentence, and as others have said, there are a lot of treatments that minimize the symptoms.
Be of good cheer!
