Question about the movie/play Oklahoma.

Question about the movie/play Oklahoma.

Why was that woman Laurie (Shirley Jones’s character) such a ridiculous nitwit as to agree to go to the box Social with Judd instead of Curly (Gordon McRae’s character) who was ever so much better looking and she liked him anyway? And look at all the trouble it caused!
