I just tried a box wine

from Costco...a Black Box Chardonnay. Very nice for the price.

1. Costco has good wines.

Try their Kirkland version of Bailey's Irish Crème. Actually better than Baileys to be exact.

2. I used to like their Kirkland Rum, but...

Now I find it to be too much vanilla. Something went bad in their dunder pit.

8. I'm not saying 'don't try any', I personally just don't really drink reds unless they're GOOD reds

I don't think (or at least, I don't know of any) there are GOOD 'box red wines'.

Someone else may very well find plenty to their liking though

16. Actually, the Bota Box Nighthawk Black Cabernet Sauvignon

is quite good for a box wine. It's what I take on camping trips, and it makes a good cooking wine, as it doesn't go bad in the box over time. I put it in my red sauce for pasta, my ersatz "beef" stew and "coq" au vin (I'm a vegetarian, so no meat, por favor).

9. And when you get to the end you can take the plastic out of the box,

lay it flat on your counter with the spout hanging over the edge and use your forearms to squeeze another two glasses out of said box. ......i'm just saying.

19. Or, you can remove the bag from the box and snip out a small corner

to let that last drop slip out easily...much easier than all that squeezing to get it out through the spigot.

15. they are great for camping, cookouts etc

don't have to haul out the glass, recycle etc... just burn the box
drink the wine, and afterwards take the empty plastic bag inside,
blow it up, and voila !
emergency pass out pillow 😜

ymmv

18. Oenophiles are discovering that boxed wines are better than their reputation.

For one thing, the world's supply of cork is diminishing, so screw-cap wines and boxed wines are starting to win over wine-loving environmentalists.

Also, the presence of the box has little to do with the quality of the wine within. The pouch within the box allows for less oxygenation of the wine over time. So boxed wine goes bad more slowly than bottled wine if the drinker consumes only small amounts at a time.

And even wine-snobs like me have to admit that a corked glass bottle is no indicator of quality. I've encountered some legendarily bad wines that came in traditional corked glass bottles.
