The specific feature was casserole of squash with pork chop chunks. One guest, an ex-nun, pursed her lips to say, "The thing is, I'm a vegan."
I was just nonplussed, wasn't rude to say what I was thinking (well, I don't know what you're going to eat). After a pregnant silence, she proceeded to pick every chunk out.
We know that what she ate wasn't vegan since the meat juices were in every bite she ate. But it was important to her to make her statement.
