Does anyone here have experience in buying prescription glasses online?

There are online sites with prices a bit cheaper than at the stores. Has anyone has a good experience with any of these sites?

1. Gotten several pairs from 39 Dollar Glasses

They have been fine and about 75% cheaper than the opticians up the road from me. (I have a VERY expensive prescription.)

My near vision has actually improved over the years as my far vision has deteriorated. Did you ever wear contacts? I did in my 20's and 30's, but went back to glasses in my 40's when I began to need bifocals.

16. I got my first pair of HARD contacts in 1976

Ouch, but I wanted so badly to ditch the specs. I have been wearing glasses exclusively since 2004. I like the way they look and contacts are a pain in the ass. I didn't need an add in my script until 2012. I started wearing glasses when I was 9, how about you?

18. Glasses wearer since age of 9 too! In 1962.

Started wearing (soft) contacts in 1978. They were a pain (and expensive) to take care of, but they were comfortable. When the "24-hour" soft contacts were introduced I got those, and loved them until I got an eye infection from them.

I like my glasses too and they sure are easier than contacts.

I have purchased from Zenni optical and also GlassesUSA.

Of the two places, the glasses from Zenni are the better of the two.

I have 4 different RX's for glasses so having them made up by an optometrist is not a good option for me.

Needless to say online glasses are saving me a bundle.

I had to take the eye exam for my driver's license to be renewed recently and it went AOK (was wearing the glasses made by Zenni.com) !

5. I've been buying from Zenni for years. Prices start at 7 bucks a pair, going up to the $30s...

Additional stuff, like progressive bifocals, polarized shades, etc can bring the price up. Way up, but not to your local optician prices.

The prescriptions are accurate and the frames are more substantial than you would think at these prices. Delivery is usually within a week.

You have to know your prescription and interpupillary distance, but they give lots of help.

www.zennioptical.com Give them a shot and start out buying a cheap pair for a total of maybe 10 bucks and see how it goes.

Other online sources may be as good or better, but this is the only one I've used.

7. Depends on your prescription. Before I had cataract surgery, I had a very

difficult prescription. Even local opticians would screw them up.

After cataract surgery, my vision is easily corrected and I have bought at least 4 sets online. No problem and I saved a bunch of money.

I like Zenni, which are made in China. GlassesUSA is more expensive, but supposedly made here.

8. That's the only way we have purchased glasses for several years.

There are several to choose from. We have only used Zenni, but only because they were pretty much the only one available at the time.

Just need your script for the numbers and your pupil distance.

The hardest part is picking a frame from the many choices.

Side note; get sunglasses that fit at the time you order glasses if you ever use sunglasses. I even got a 3D clip on for watching 3D movies at the theater. We usually get two different pairs each at a time. Good to have a spare.

and Goggles4U. Pretty happy with all of them. I haven't bought from a brick and mortar store in about 10 years.

One helpful hint on getting frames that are flattering and a good size for your face. Ideally your eye should be in the center of the lens, vertically and horizontally. Take a pair of glasses you have already that you like. Inside one of the arms you'll find measurements like 53-16-140. The first number is the lens width, the second number is the bridge and the last number is the arm length. Measure the lens height and the overall width of the frames too. You want to choose frames with a lens that is a millimeter or 2 bigger or smaller than the glasses you already own.
