I love this idea.

Gurrumal, he was blind and has sadly passed. On that note those with cultural sensitivities about viewing images of a deceased person are here-by warned.

Beautiful voice.

It reminds me a little of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (Hawaiian, so not international but traditional, and also passed on):

Spellbound I am, I am
The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me
Spellbound deep in my soul, in my soul
In my heart burns a sizzling fire, a sizzling fire

Spellbound I am, I am
The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me
Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root
My eyes gaze to where the wizard stood

A little proto-Germanic for you.

These guys take texts and runes from the dawn of language and put them to song.

I played this to my dog, he is a wolf now.

soukous, get up and dance. Soukous is from the Congo, though often recorded in France, and is a high energy dance music. This is one of many great soukous artists I started listening to in the late 80s.

edit to add:

another great one. Extra Ball by Diblo Dibala, one of the most famous of the African guitarists

I considered Kassav' the greatest band in the world for many years. They invented the style of music called zouk. A hugely varied and tuneful catalog of songs. This is their theme song. Zouk is the only medicine we need.

22. Juan Luis Guerra - Ojala que llueva cafe (I hope it will rain coffee)
Sun Jul 21, 2019, 10:49 PM
Jul 2019

A Cuban-American friend sent me an unlabled cassette tape in the early 90s that had 90 minutes of music on it by Juan Luis Guerra. I found out much later that it was the albums Ojala que llueva café and Bachata Rose. It sat in my car tape deck for about a year, because all the music was so good, and there was so much to listen to, despite the fact I don't speak any Spanish and understand any of the lyrics. Guerra is an extremely good and varied songwriter and arranger. From the Dominican Republic.

I hope it will rain coffee
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
Let there be a heavy rain of cassava roots and tea
Let a drizzle of white cheese fall from the sky
And to the South a mountain of pepper grass and honey
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh, I hope it will rain coffee

(Chorus)
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
To smooth a high hill made of wheat and yam
To go down a hill of rice [1]
And to keep on plowing the land with your love
Oh, oh, oh-oh-oh...
I hope that autumn will cover my harvest
With pitisalé instead of with dry leaves [2]
I want to sow sweet potatoes and strawberries in a plain
I hope it will rain coffee

So that we won't suffer so much while working the plot*
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
So that they could hear this song in Villa Vásquez [*]
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
I hope it will rain, I hope it will rain, ah man
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
I hope it will rain coffee

Ooh

(Chorus)

So that we won't suffer so much while working the plot*
Hey, I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
So that they could hear this song in Los Montones [*]
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
I hope it will rain, I hope it will rain, ah man
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
I hope it will rain coffee

So that all the children will sing in the countryside
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
So that they could hear this song in La Romana [*]
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
Ah! I hope it will rain, I hope it will rain, ah man
I hope it will rain coffee in the countryside
I hope it will rain coffee
