Remember when Elizabeth Taylor was on the soap General Hospital? She liked Luke, Laura story

Some of her appearances are on youtube.

Also many bits of the Luke and Laura story, esp THE WEDDING!

1. OMG I didn't make the connection. I loved that story line and the wedding!

Haven't thought of soaps in a couple of decades!

2. I remember that storyline

Twentysomething Luke raped teenager Laura, but eventually she fell in love with him and they had the wedding of the decade! So true to life!!!!

3. What is with that storyline, anyway?

I thought it was sickening and stupid back then and I still do, now.

4. i remember how disillusioned I became when women went ga-ga over the rape romance storyline.

I was raised in a matriarchal household and taught to treat women with respect and reverence.

Then, as an adult, this Luke rapes Laura but it's OK because she secretly "wanted it" "romance" was embraced by every woman I know as a "love story". I got into many discussions where I was appalled by the rape, while women in my life were swooning over it.

Didn't understand it then. Don't understand it now.

And don't get me started on "Grease". Or "Twilight". Or "Fifty Shades".
