Portland Trail Blazers: I'll admit it

When the team announced that they were signing Carmelo Anthony a couple of weeks ago to shore up their depleted front line, my first thought was, "What, Shawn Kemp isn't available?"

I was wrong.

Anthony seems determined to show that he still has some basketball to play at the highest level, and was named the Western Conference Player of the Week today. Go Blazers!

Mello is a standing joke in our house. I'm shocked that he won that recognition since he usually only plays one end of the court and he's a ball black hole. Once the ball goes in, it never comes out - except to put up a shot.

Good for him.

Anthony seems happy to let the team belong to Damian Lillard (of course, if he didn't, he'd be gone in an instant). He's worked into the rotation pretty well, and he isn't The Man on every offensive set, as he has been at most other places. He has also been engaged at the defensive end. I have a lot of respect for Terry Stotts, the Blazers coach. He has found a way to sell playing defense to Anthony, and Anthony has responded.

We'll see how long it lasts, but for now the Blazers seem to be righting the ship.

I'm afraid that we are Warriors fans. Even used to be season ticket holders during the Run TMC days.

This year is going to be difficult, but it's good to see our newbies getting better. We're still losing, but not by as much! It's rough to go from the top of the heap to the bottom so quickly.

They had to try something and he was a scapegoat for the Rockets.

They have had a road-heavy early season schedule, and a boatload of new guys for the front court. It was going to take some time for the team to gel under any circumstances. Then Zack Collins went down with a separated shoulder, and the injured Pau Gasol was released before he ever played a game. Anthony is a gamble, but it's paid off for now.

Tomorrow night's game against the Clippers in Los Angeles (road game number 14 of their first 21 games) will be a good test.
