(14,012 posts)Posey ("I don't like to be pushed" )
Jefferson (threatened with castration)
Maggot ("She tried to soil my spirit" )
Wladislaw ("My outfit was pinned down by the most murderous crossfire you ever saw - half of 'em bleedin' to death - and this lover, he took off like a jackrabbit with all the medical supplies strapped to his back. The only way to stop him was to shoot him... anyhow, he had it comin'. " )
Franko (got himself hung for a lousy ten bucks. )
I used to spend way to much time making model airplanes and watching movies.
Also notice: all the people who were sentenced to die were ethnic - Wladislaw was Polish, Maggott was something Mediterranean (since Telly Savalas was Greek, probably so was Maggott), Jefferson was African-American, Posey was Native American and Franco was Italian. The only ethnic who didnt receive hanging as a sentence was Bravos, who was Hispanic.
All the All American White Boys got prison sentences.
Harker
(14,012 posts)At least Reisman said that Jefferson had "considerable justification", even if the Army hadn't seen it that way. He also got sad music and shocked faces when he was shot down. Not much compensation in that, certainly.
jmowreader
(50,553 posts)Posey could have been written up for involuntary manslaughter - he punched his victim once and drove his jawbone into his brain.
However! Maggott killed the woman he raped, and Franko killed a guy during a robbery attempt. I have no tears for them.

(14,012 posts)I don't recall being privy to Pvt. Gardiner's specifics as the "object of the exercise" at the beginning.
I haven't read the source novel since about 1970, but there were substantive differences, as I recall.
Seeing the movie in the theatre as a child, despite the M rating, it was lost on me how controversial it was for depicting Americans committing egregious war crimes.

(8,144 posts)who may have been the inspiration for the character? Love to know and your source as I am a bit
sentimental about Sky King.
Brother Buzz
(36,416 posts)Oh, Sky landed the modern Cessna Songbird, not the AT-17 Bobcat (the Bamboo Bomber) on the aircraft carrier. Paul Mantz, Hollywood stunt pilot, owned the AT-17 and many other pilots flew it. I don't know if Mantz flew the Cessna 310. Kirby Grant was licensed to fly the Cessna 310, and but all accounts was a proficient pilot, but I suspect he didn't have the skill set needed to land on a carrier.
Out of the clear blue of the Western sky comes Sky King!
My sentiments are not necessarily with Sky King, but rather with Penny. That's just the way I swing.
emmaverybo
(8,144 posts)always Penny. I might have been five years old, dark-haired, plump, and timid, but when we played Sky King, I WAS Penny. To show names can be archetypes of our childhood which persist in subliminal influence, one of my best friends is named Penny.

If you remember how bad the Cubs were in the 50s that didn't speak well of Chuck Connors.
I read a history of the old PCL. One of the reasons that the majors moved west was because some of the stars of the old PCL were pulling in more money than the major league stars through endorsements etc. Some players even refused to go up to the majors.

(38,418 posts)is a 1951 film noir directed by Henry Hathaway, which tells the story of a New York City police officer trying to stop a despondent man from jumping to his death from the 15th floor of a hotel.
The film won critical acclaim for Richard Basehart, who portrayed the mentally disturbed man on the building ledge. Paul Douglas played the police officer, and a large supporting cast included Barbara Bel Geddes, Agnes Moorehead, Robert Keith, Debra Paget, and Howard Da Silva. It was the screen debut of Grace Kelly and Jeffrey Hunter, who appeared in small roles.[1]

His mom a Quincy, gaining at LEAST one power from her (Blut).
Most of his hollow powers stem from the hollow, White, who infected his mom. The other bit comes from all Soul Reapers have to suppress their inner selves from being taken over.
Now, by the end of the series, Ichigo has a mastery of both his hollow and soul reaper powers. We have yet to know if Ichigo has any other Quincy powers.

What did the character of Spearchucker Jones have in common with the two actors who played him?
Brother Buzz
(36,416 posts)Why was Spearchucker Jones dropped from the television series?
jmowreader
(50,553 posts)In the book and movie, Spearchucker was a pro football player.
In the book, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. Timothy Brown, who played him in the TV show, also played for the Eagles.
In the movie, both Spearchucker and the actor Fred Williamson played for the 49ers.
He was a Swampman in the series to be Nurse Ginger Bayliss love interest. He was taken off because they ran out of jokes for him.
Brother Buzz
(36,416 posts)I only assumed he was a college football star, and on a chance meeting, he became Hawkeye's secret weapon. Duke Forrest only recognized him, and his nickname, when he threw the football (although spearchucker had nothing to do with football or racism).
jmowreader
(50,553 posts)Hawkeye knew who Spearchucker was. He went through Replacement with him. Spearchucker didnt want anyone to know he was a football star because he came to Korea to do neurosurgery, not to be on a Special Services football team.
