So my hubby was working on some financial matters on the net and there was an option offering more information. He thought it was a valid option related to the site he visited, but I think it was an ad. He selected the option, expecting to get a representative that could answer a few questions so he could determine if it was the right option for him.
Omigod! I think they gave his number to every telemarketer within a three state radius. Okay, maybe they were just five companies, but they were calling atleast once an hour. We were getting calls even from a mortgage company even though his financial question had nothing to do with a remortgage. He's been answering the phone to try to stop them and he told me their sales tactics are very aggressive. Even when he told the mortgage guy that we were not interested in remortgaging the house, the guy on the phone insisted that if he could fill out an ap we would be ready to take advantage of the next interest rate drop.
These people are hungry. Be careful of those options offering to provide more information. It's an invitation for more spam calls.

It detects robo calls and sends them into the either.

(4,923 posts)I'll ask the to hold on a second while I check the food on my stove...then I'll put the phone down and go on with my day. I don't know how long they stay on the phone and I don't care. It wastes their time and that is a good thing.
Doesn't happen much these days though because smartphones are now kinda...you know, smart.

(2,187 posts)If you're not expecting the call, make them leave a message. Telemarketers generally don't do this. And if you don't answer, they won't know if your number is "live" and will stop calling.
Also - you don't have to he so polite to the aggressive ones. Save their time and yours by just saying "no, thank you" and hanging up.

(46,682 posts)Its like the next level up in the telemarking nightmare. We requested the call, but the link went to five companies associated with the ad. Same people are calling according to the caller id and my husband is getting them to stop calling by talking to them directly.

(29 posts)We should not give out our personal details or information over the websites. They might sell those info to even more telemarketing companies or even scammers. About what your husband got, were the calls came from legit companies? If yes, I have just read a nice information at https://www.whycall.me/news/my-4500-payday-from-a-telemarketer/. Hope this helps.

(46,682 posts)I will mark for later read. Telemarketers have been an issue in my house in the past but it was under control until my hubby requested more information and hit the wrong button. Always a good idea to learn what the spammers are up to.
