Never knew about child predators. Communications & news was pretty limited back then. It was just a Christmas song.

I was never comforted by the idea of the everlasting light. Just creeped out by the dark streets thing...

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa.Claus. Didn't understand why the song said it would be a laugh if daddy had seen it. Thought my daddy would be sad and hurt if Santa stole a kiss from my mommy.

Also misheard the words in It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. Where it says "The whole world in stillness lay to hear the angels sing" I thought it said the whole world was stealing a sleigh. Figured they would ride it to Bethlehem to listen to the angels. (Would serve Santa right if they took HIS sleigh while he was.kissing mommies)

Another line in the same song confused me, too. "Angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold" sounded to me like "hearts of gold." i knew that expression and figured angels must be really nice folks. Certainly nicer than Santa who sneaked kisses behind the backs of daddies.
