(23,061 posts)This will be our first Christmas with our 3 year old Aussie Shepherd rescue and I am having to make modifications. We have the tree in the middle of our picture windows, and usually presents go on either side and the front of the tree. Well, one of those windows is Finleys' bark spot. I know if I put presents there, he will just walk/jump all over them. So now I have to fit all the presents in the front and one side of the tree and don't know how this will work out. Guess it's a good thing we decided to downsize our Christmas giving this year.
I'm betting this is one year I have to redo at least several packages. I will just have to be careful with where the presents go - breakables directly under the tree and out of his path and pray for some luck.

(23,061 posts)The issue is my collection of hand made and glass ornaments. They need someplace to hang. I've already downsized once, from 10 to 8 ft tall trees and gotten rid of all ornaments that don't have some kind of meaning. That left me exactly enough to fill up an 8 ft tree, so if we don't have the 8 ft. tree, we will need 2 4ft. ones.
Finley is 4 & barks like crazy. I can hope he'll eventually mellow out, as lots of barking is common to the breed. He has calmed down a lot from a year ago when we got him as a rescue, he had bad anxiety barking at the time. He's a real sweetheart and has come so far. I'm betting he'll be actual friends with at least one of the cats by next year this time.

Just google "christmas tree hung from ceiling" for pictures and for instructions on how to do it.
Of course, sometimes that is not enough to protect the tree:

I hope it wasn't made of chocolate. Dogs can get very sick on chocolate, it can even be fatal for them.
Just about anything else will pass right through them.
