I developed a crush on the girl who played Anne in the play. Seeing the play inspired me to read the book. After which, I was plunged into a depression that lasted two whole years. Granted, I was twelve at the time, so the onset of adolescence no doubt played a part.

But that was really the key factor in the development of my visceral hatred of injustice, which burns to this day...

Didn't know 'Edith' was Anne's mother's name, same name as my birth mother. (And my middle name is spelled Anne, too.)
