I posted yesterday about getting only 10 pills (instead of 14) of a narcotic pain pill. My doctor had ordered 2 a day for a week, thus 14. All documentation stated I was to get 14.
I posted it also to a local non-DU forum and a woman responded she had pills missing from the same pharmacy.
She wrote:
My daughter discovered she was missing 90% of her prescription. Of course, the bags are stapled shut and she didnt need the pills right away so we just discovered the problem after reading your post ... there are no refills for 90 days. She was given only 10 days worth of pills!

(36,818 posts)Put yourself in the position of a person who is stealing pills.
If you were smart, you wouldn't steal from the pharmacy's stock because they inventory those often. You also wouldn't steal from someone who has a 30 day prescription because they would definitely notice. Someone who has less than a 30 day prescription would be less likely to notice, because they are probably being prescribed for a procedure and will not likely need all of their pills.
They will get caught eventually. The pharmacy will inevitably get complaints and they have cameras on pill counters for exactly that reason.

(12,051 posts)you should definitely report this to the police and whatever state agency (or fed) that investigates stuff like this. There's a thief in that pharmacy.
Don't keep writing about this in local forums -- you don't want to alert the thief. Keep quiet and go to the authorities right away.

(12,051 posts)the pills that are going missing are something like a statin, or an antibiotic, which don't have the effect of getting people high. Yep, someone is def a thief.

(26,251 posts)Well, it happened just once because, after that, she would open the bag and bottle, stand at the counter and COUNT her pills, before leaving.
It's an unfortunate inconvenience to people waiting in line, but that's definitely what I would start doing.

(130,768 posts)Definitely take some action, maybe local law enforcement, and/or report to 'corporate' of your pharmacy, and if you do, tell them about the other woman's experience; they should be more than interested in such behavior, among their 'franchises.'

(9,291 posts)Law enforcement can access them. Its December, and they can sell pills for a pretty penny. They dont have to be addicted.
I knew of a LEO officer, addicted, who would call in bomb threats to get access. He was discovered and he just passed away. It happens.
